Al - Thanks for your comments. I agree it was disappointing but certainly don't think T Martinez and his mechanics were to blame at all. I believe that a 8 or 9 win season, although not what any of us wanted is still worthy of some credit. Remember, Bowl Game are rewards for a season, lots of teams get to go even if they are not to BCS Bowls. Maybe more importantly, about 20 extra practices are invaluable for next year...almost like having an extra Spring Practice. They also do a ton for recruiting, especially if they are in the South. Bowl Games are also somewhat of a reward for the Fans...traveling to them is a big deal to some. Keep cheering...this Friday is a big game as well.

Monte, I really enjoy reading your responses after the games. You have great insight and remain a positive Husker fan while telling it like it is. I really don't like all the negative garbage out there, let's keep supporting our team, win or loose.

I have been a Husker fan for 80 years and the loss to Michigan was by far
one of the weakest efforts in school history. Martinez still needs to receive
some special QB coaching..especially how not to throw off your wrong foot.
There is now little hope of any worthwhile bowl bid. Let the team stay home
and watch great teams play...they may learn something important to use
in the future. I started hitch hiking to Husker games as a 10 year old and
tho I`m still a Husker fan I`m not urging any coaching changes both Pelini
brothers are very capable but the players need to sharpen their defensive
skills and some of their offense is weak and wanting. But despite
all the anguish and losses I stillthink "go BID RED 2012 is coming.

We played a little different this week than against MSU even though it looked similar with our two safeties. One issue was that NWestern ran a ton more multiple receiver sets and were hurting us with their slot receivers, crossing routes, and then pivot routes to counter our coverage jumping inside. The bigger issue was the fact that our Front Four could not get any pressure and couldn't stand up in the rushing game. Also with a multiple receiver set, our Peso LB and his 5 mates in the Box couldn't stop the Wildcat running game from leaking for 5-6 yds games. Blame several things for that but the fact that 3 of our DTs were hurt didn't help. One problem this year is that we aren't a great blitzing team...when we come, we don't get there. A lot of that comes with experience.

Monte,

Well put my friend, I can hear the frustratiion in your words and believe me it is well deserved. I am a guy that watches the game anever counting out the huskers no matter what. I truly thought we would vcome back. who would have thought that on 4th down twice we wouldnt stop the run. They hit us for 7 running plays in that last drive...Disapoint much!! I always wonder why we dont blitz mpore, it would seem to me that if your D-line is down help them ou by bringing some more heat. we run a dime package and can still blitz giving us 5 DB's in cobverage! Oh well its over now. Heres a few stats that help me sleep at night, we gave up 7 points in the first quarter and 7 in the 3rd. We stopped them the whole game minus the 14 point 4th quarter. Our D did enough to win the game and essentially win it big if our offense produces! All is not lost on Defense considering NW had a good offense and two good quarterbacks. It says something for the shift in College Football if the back up QB for the wildcats was recruited by us and choose ended up choosing them. would we be so suprised if we beat people with him at QB for us?? We will be fine and we will bounce back, Penn State is a esier Offensive scheme for our D and Our O will bounce back. Its Michigan that is going to keep me up at night!! One final thought, Michigan State still has to play NW and Iowa...We still gotta a chance!!

Tough loss, leaves only the faithful behind, but that is ok. Do you think it would have been favorable to show a young qb a different look. I know we were praised for running the same defense over and over again against Michigan St., but it seemed like we did the same thing this past week and it was not working. We sat back with 2 deep safeties and pretty much played a basic set the entire game and when it counted, could not get off the field. As a fan that doesn't know a lot, should we have mixed it up at least a little bit?

Out of the woods??? I think they are just venturing into the trees. Aside from Minn (which is still an away game), the rest of the games, except Northwestern, will probably be single digit spreads. That means that just a couple plays here and there could make a difference. Out of the remaining games, there will be some tough, physical, and close games. It will be a fun remaining schedule, for sure! Grades? Not a bad idea. Offense - B, Defense C+, Special Teams A- Overall B...not bad but room for improvement.

Monte,

Great stuff as always! I hope you don't mind but I'm gonna warm up my typing fingers on you, I have a paper to write by yesterday and I need to loosen up...Safety first!

I am usually the only one in my circle of fans that is positive all the way to the end, even when we got beat by Wisconsin I still found a way to justify to myself that if this and that hadn't of happened we would have won, with all that being said I like you was not a happy camper Saturday nite and I feel bad for it. I said words to the TV that well..I have only heard on the TV at some point, very hurtful things to the players and coaches and to the announcers (Not to sorry about that one). I could not believe that we couldn't tackle to save our lives and we didn't seem to have any marbles on offense. I was unhappy with the scheming for this game considering how affective Michigan State was with the blitz, I mean come on they sacked Martin 8 times a week ago. We blitzed maybe 3 times and once we got caught for a TD and the other few times we didn't time it right and we looked like a new freshman playing DE for the Scout team after an hour of full contact scrimmage. None the less i kept the TV on and deep inside a small place in my heart that was closing quickly still had some hope.

And then out of now where this team shows up that I had been waiting for for 5 weeks and 2 3/4 of a game. Lavonte made that play and all of the sudden the players believed again. 2 plays or so later Martinez was pounding his chest in the End Zone (Good for him!!). No more we are beat, no more we got nothing left, no more we got no shot. We had a shot and we took full advantage. I'm not gonna get into the whole the QB goes down game changes type talk, lets talk about how our offense made the 13th ranked Defense look terrible. We could do anything we wanted and we made it all look easy. Rex is my moms favorite player and for good reason, he is a great kid who loves his momma (im pretty sure that's why she likes him so much :)) He should be every husker fans favorite now including the O-cordinator. OK well now that I'm all stretched out and ready to type 3-4 pages double spaced for American Congress class, let me end with this. The Skers put together enough in a quarter in a half to make most of us sleep that night and probably for the rest of the year, at this stage of the season you can hang allot on Heart and effort. The kids have allot of work to do but in give these coaches 2 solid weeks and Minnesota might just want to play a continuous clock on the 22nd. I'm proud to be a husker fan no matter what and I always will be, no matter what is going on for the first 3 quarters :)
